We Wait in Hope and Longing

We wait in hope and longing 
For Christ, the promised One.
God’s saving work unfolding 
Till love and light are shown.
The Word draws near in grace, 
God comes to dwell among us
And bring the world new peace.

For prophets bore their witness
To God’s redeeming plan;
Their words of hope now lead us
To Christ, the Son of Man.
Born humble, weak, and small,
He comes to save and guide us
And be our Lord of all.

O Christ, our hope and promise, 
Our light in darkest days,
We lift our hearts to greet you
With prayer and grateful praise.
Come, Lord, and make us new;
Renew our joy of living,
And lead us in your truth.
